As the ambassador for Richmond’s diverse culinary scene, Lindsay receives a one-year contract role with a salary of $50,000, living compensation and a daily stipend for all restaurant meals. The job also includes a one-year membership to the Richmond Olympic Oval—home to a 23,000 square foot fitness centre—to assist in burning off all those daily restaurant samplings!
In exchange, Lindsay will dine at 365 Richmond restaurants in 365 days, taking photos, shooting videos and blogging about the experience. She will also be actively engaging with the community—both in person and online through social media—and meeting the people who live, work and play in Richmond. The dynamic, multicultural city of Richmond boasts more than 800 restaurants (over 400 of which are Asian eateries) and is renowned for having some of the best Chinese cuisine in the world. Add to that all the fresh seafood offerings in the scenic fishing village of Steveston as well as fine-dining hotel restaurants, two authentic Asian night markets, funky diners and the homemade offerings at the Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market, and there’s plenty of variety to keep Lindsay busy for a full year.

Sleep here. Eat here. Shop here. For 80 consecutive days.Vancouver resident Jaeger Mah was selected by public vote to take on the challenge. From August 17 to November 4, 2011, he has access to the people, places and behind-the-scenes spaces most have never seen. Until now.
As the official Live@YVR correspondent, Jaeger will sleep at The Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel, live in the YVR community and tell the stories of YVR’s 23,600 employees and 400 businesses. And he can’t leave the airport’s Sea Island home for the duration of the 80 days. Not even once.
Follow along as Jaeger uncovers the stories behind YVR and shares the triumphs—and trials—of living at an airport full time.

604: Night Markets
Check out the two Richmond night markets, a summer tradition here in Vancouver. This is one of the cool things to see in Richmond if you've only seen YVR airport. The "Summer Night Market" opened last week and "Richmond Night Market" opens this weekend. They are open every weekend up until the fall.You can find a lot of awesome / "exotic" food and random/weird things to buy! It is always packed and very lively.

604: lunch time dilemma?

VANCOUVER — Ta da! Meet the 12 new street food locations and the vendors who landed them. Most have not yet opened but they’ll be operating soon enough. Most are still rushing to get their carts or trucks or vans ready. For the most up-to-date information on dates, times, menus, websites and social media information, the street food app (download at streetfoodapp.com/vancouver) is your buddy, or you can access each vendor on the website. You might come across unfamiliar operators on the streets — those might be subleased locations operating under a grandfathered clause, or hotdog vendors who have changed up their menu. If they’re outside of downtown Vancouver, they might have a mobile permit, which allows them to roam. And you might find some street food vendors showing up at farmers’ markets or other events.

“Achin’ for bacon?” asks their pink piglike van. Vendors Mark Cothey and Krissy Seymour were doing exactly that, given Cothey’s English, bacon-chomping background. In particular, he needed bacon buddy. (Bacon butty, bacon sarnie, bacon sanger – call it what you might, it’s a bacon sandwich with ketchup.) “It’s a staple back home,” says Cothey, a former ESL teacher. “Here, it’s the smell of onions at hotdog stands. There, it’s the smell of bacon, wafting 50 metres and it always tastes as good as it smells.” So! The couple converted their “home” into a street food van, shrink-wrapping it with pink piggy branding. (The van used to be their weekend camping van.) The idea was inspired by a hangover in the camper van one morning when he awoke in need of a bacon buddy. He saw a niche that needed filling.
Krissy, with a culinary and restaurant background, is the chef. Her flatbread for the sandwiches has bacon fat in it, unless you opt for the vegetarian. Bacon buddy choices include Piggy Blues, with local cheeses (plural), portobello mushrooms, bacon, caramelized onions and mayo; Southern Piggy comes with a bourbon barbecue sauce and roasted corn, greens and chipotle mayo. Their bacon is from an Abbotsford supplier, double-smoked and “halfway between side and back bacon,” says Cothey. Following the bacon-gone-crazy trend, they do a bacon brownie.
